Today was an exciting day for Rem for he would receive his first mission as a genin. Opening his eyes and not wanting to be late, he tried to quickly get out of bed but fell in the process. Slowly getting up and rubbing his head, he didn’t get injured due to the garbage and dirty clothes he left lying around. Rem then started searching his room for a clean pair of clothes and finally found one pair that didn’t smell too bad. Then, smelling his breath, he went into the bathroom to brush his teeth and take a shower. Finally ready to leave, he grabbed his staff which was lying on the wall beside the door and headed out.
Getting closer and closer to the administration building where he would receive his mission, his spirits grew higher and higher in excitement and anticipation. Finally reaching the office and waiting for his mission, he looked around at what everyone else was doing. Some were just talking; others were carrying and filing paperwork, while the rest… “Rem, we are ready for you.” A man said. Rem got up from his chair, walked forwards and stopped right in front of the table of ninja before him. They then started speaking, “Rem, this is a C ranked hunt mission, in which you are to track and apprehend a criminal. This criminal is known to steal from shops and then vandalize the street he did it on as a mark that he had been there. If you choose to accept this mission, you will start immediately and have no time constraints to worry about. Do you accept this mission?” In response, Rem lifted his head a bit and looked the head ninja straight in the eye, “I willfully accept this mission.” He then proceeded out the door and onto the street where he started thinking of his next move.
The time was nearly noon and he thought that he had some time for the criminal wouldn’t strike in broad daylight. His stomach grumbling, he stopped at a well known privately owned restaurant and sat down at the counter. “The usual Rem?” the owner asked. “Course” Rem responded, “Just put in on my tab.” While halfway done with his food, the friendly bartender spoke to him again. “Have you heard? A new toy shop has opened up that’s been really popular lately. You should check it out, they might have something for you to do besides eat pizza and sundaes all day.” Catching his interest but not really, he decided to check it out anyways to see if the bartender really knew what he was talking about. Additionally, if the store was relatively new and popular, it was bound to be a target by the criminal sooner or later. Getting up and leaving the store, he lifted his arm and bid the bartender goodbye.
He then decided to check the other sites of vandalism to see what he was dealing with. He walked over to another part of town where he had heard a store had been robbed. Upon arriving, he immediately noticed that the street was full of toilet paper and graffiti. Thinking it’s an amateur job, he proceeded to the store that was robbed. He walked in and questioned the owner who responded like he had to other authorities. “It must have occurred at night sometime because I didn’t see anything happen. Soon after, the alarm to the store triggered and I quickly rushed over to see my windows shattered and the street vandalized.” Satisfied with the information, he then decided to head over to the toy store to check it out.
Quickly walking over there, he rounded a corner to face a huge line of parents and kids waiting to get into the store. Unable to get in, he checked the streets for any signs of vandalism and found none. Thinking of what he should do next in the midst of the crowd, he finally decided upon staking out. Checking when the store would close, he decided to come a little before ten o’clock. Slowly passing the time doing nothing, the hour of reckoning was upon him. He went back to the street and looked for a decent spot to hide and gaze at his surroundings. He found a spot behind some trash cans and waited there starring at the store.
It started to get chilly and a crumpled up newspaper blew by hitting bumps and twirling around. When he finally started thinking that nothing was going to happen, he heard footsteps coming closer. Then, a teenager not much taller than him appeared wearing a cloak and a piece of cloth to cover his face. The kid then pulled out some trash and some spray paint and started vandalizing the street. Rem pondered whether to apprehend the boy right then, but then decided to watch him commit the crime and hopefully follow him to the place he was stashing all the other stolen goods. The kid followed his profile and did exactly what he did in all his other crimes. After finishing decorating the street, he pulled out a rock from his robes and threw it at the window of the toy store. The window shattered into tiny little pieces and the alarm rang loudly shortly after. The kid proceeded to rob the store and quickly run away before he was caught. Rem couldn’t exactly catch what the kid stole, but it seemed that some toys were taken in addition to some money.
When Rem thought that he was a good distance away from the kid, he used his speed and stealth to follow the kid to his hiding place. The chase seemed to take a while as they both passed many desolate streets and the breeze turned from cool to freezing. The kid finally stopped running and turned around to scout the area if he was followed by any chance. Rem hid in response and waited until the kid entered a dark alleyway. Rem then slowly and stealthily followed and peeked around the corner to see the back of the kid surrounded by all the things Rem concluded he stole. The kid was apparently making himself a sandwich out of the food he stole from a previous operation. Rem didn’t think the kid was harmful, but took precautions either way. He made some hand seals and uttered “Doru Mane”.
The kid noticed immediately and in response pulled a kunai out of his robes and turned around. Then, using his momentum, he threw the kunai as hard as he could at Rem which fortunately missed. Rem could see that the kid was too weak from not eating and didn’t practice enough. A doll of the kid then appeared in Rem’s hand and several chakra needles in his other one. He then proceeded to puncture the doll's arms and legs, so that the kid couldn’t move. The kid tried escaping, but was too weak to break out of it physically. I don’t feel like hurting him Rem thought, a little disappointed from his opponent. He wanted a real fight, but after all, it was his first mission. He then moved the kid out of the alleyway and covered it up to so that no one else could find it.
He then lifted the kid onto his back without any struggle and preceded to hand him over to the night watch. “Good job” a shinobi said as Rem told them where all the stolen things were. He then dispelled his genjutsu from the kid so he wasn’t paralyzed anymore and bid the night watch farewell. He would report the details of his mission tomorrow after a good night’s sleep. He wasn’t lazy or anything along those lines, but came to the conclusion that nobody would be at the building anyways.
